Crich Stand Memorial

Crich Memorial Tower in Derbyshire, England is the Mercian Regiment monument dedicated to those who lost their lives in wartime. As such, visitors should act in a respectful way when visiting. The tower also offers incredible views over the surrounding countryside.

When you arrive on the site, you’ll find landscaped grounds surrounding the tower with mowed lawns and winding pathways. There’s also a memorial garden and a small tea room to visit. Most visitors head straight for the tower though where you’ll find a climb of 58 steps to get to the top. The view does not disappoint! It’s said that you can see landmarks in 7 counties on clear days.

The hill here is already 340 meters above sea level and is one of the highest points in this part of Derbyshire. There are good views without even climbing the tower, especially looking down into the former quarry next door which now houses the Crich Tramway Village attraction. If you do decide to climb the tower, one thing to bear in mind is that there’s not a lot of room when you get to the top of the steps. If you’ve seen several groups go up before you, we’d recommend waiting for some people to come down before you head up the tower. Most days, the tower is very quiet – we’ve been when we were the only people on the site!

Crich Stand is open all year round from Thursday to Monday each week. Hours in the summer months are 10am to 5pm and in the winter months it’s open 10am to 4pm. Admission is free although donations are encouraged.
