Horizon 22 is London’s highest viewing platform and best of all, its absolutely free to visit. It’s on the 58th floor of a huge building in Bishopsgate near Liverpool Street station. Admission is via a special door next to the office building entrance.
Admission tickets can be booked in advance, which we’d recommend, however you can also just turn up on the day and scan a QR code in the entrance which allocates you special ‘on the day’ tickets. We did this and didn’t even have to wait. Do bear in min that you might have to wait a couple of hours or there may be no further tickets available however. Once you’re in, the are directed to a super-fast elevator which takes you straight to the viewing platform. The viewing deck is double height with windows around 300 degrees of the building and the view is superb.
There is no time limit when you visit and we spent around an hour walking from window to window to see different parts of London. The river parts offer the best views with notable features like Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast, Tate Modern and the Shard, to look at. The Shard building is actually taller but the viewing platform at Horizon 22 is higher. As such, you actually look down on the Shard. The views towards Canary Wharf and the docklands are good too. When you need a break, there’s a small café with drinks and snacks on offer. There are a handful of seats but they were taken, so we sat on the floor and enjoyed the view instead.
The attraction has friendly staff on hand to help and advise. Horizon 22 is open every day from 10am. It closes on weekdays at 6pm, Saturdays at 5pm and Sundays at 4pm. Last admission is 30 mins before closing.
